RE:GENESIS: TRANSFORMED BY GOD’S DELIVERANCE
Genesis 31 shows God delivering Jacob from Laban’s house while transforming what still remained of Laban’s ways inside Jacob. After twenty years of manipulation, conflict, and family pain, God calls Jacob to return home and promises, “I will be with you.” Jacob obeys, but he still leaves in fear and secrecy, proving that God is still growing him up. Laban pursues, but God watches over Jacob, restraining danger before Jacob even sees it coming. At Mizpah, God sets Jacob apart from Laban, marking the separation of two peoples and the continuation of His covenant promise. This messy story points forward to Israel’s exodus and ultimately to Christ, who entered our mess, obeyed perfectly, and accomplished the greater exodus through the cross. God delivers us from the old life and transforms what the old life left in us.
