RE:GENESIS: TRANSFORMED IN THE MESS
In Genesis 29:31–30:24, Jacob’s family is a painful mess of rejection, jealousy, infertility, rivalry, and grasping for control. Leah longs for Jacob’s love, while Rachel longs for children. Both women carry real pain, but in their pain they begin reaching for what only God can give and chasing what only God can satisfy. Yet the passage begins with God seeing Leah and ends with God remembering Rachel. Through all the chaos, God is not absent. He is working. From this broken family come the twelve tribes of Israel. From Leah comes Judah, the line of Jesus. From Rachel comes Joseph, who will one day preserve the family through famine. This passage reminds us that God does not call the mess good, but He works all things together for good through His redeeming grace.
