In Genesis 35–36, Jacob’s story begins to close, but God’s promise keeps moving. The promise brings Jacob home to Bethel, where he finally completes the journey God began years earlier. There God reminds Jacob who he is, reaffirming his new name and the covenant that will continue beyond his lifetime. From there, Jacob walks through tremendous change—Rachel dies, Benjamin is born, Reuben fails, Isaac dies, and the next generation begins to take center stage. Through every transition, God remains faithful. Even Esau’s genealogy shows that God is keeping His word and ordering history according to His purposes. Jacob’s life is ending, but God’s story is not. The promise is bigger than one person, one season, or one generation.
