RE:GENESIS: CALLED TO WAIT (GENESIS 16:1-16)
Genesis 16 shows how God’s promises are often slow but always certain. This chapter reveals that the crisis surrounding Hagar’s pregnancy didn’t unravel because of one person’s sin, but because of the combined failures of Sarai, Hagar, and Abram. Sarai allowed waiting to turn into resentment and tried to accomplish God’s promise through human means. Hagar, though mistreated, responded with pride that only deepened the conflict. Abram, as the leader of the home, abdicated his responsibility and allowed compromise to unfold under his watch. Yet even in the mess, God remained faithful. He met Hagar in the wilderness, saw her suffering, and reaffirmed His purposes. Genesis 16 warns us against rushing God’s timing while reminding us that grace still meets us when we fail.
