RE:GENESIS: CALLED TO FOLLOW (GENESIS 12:1-20)
Genesis 12 marks a turning point in Scripture—from pre-history to redemptive history—where God begins His rescue plan for the world through one man, Abram. In a spiritually dark and broken world, God calls Abram purely by grace, promising blessings that would ultimately reach all nations. Abram responds in faith, following God without knowing the destination, living as a pilgrim who worships and proclaims the Lord along the way. Yet this chapter also shows Abram’s weakness, as fear leads him to rely on his own wisdom during famine. Even then, God remains faithful. As later explained in Galatians 3, the promise to Abram pointed forward to Christ—the true offspring through whom blessing comes to all who believe. Hebrews 11 reminds us that faith is trusting God’s word despite uncertainty. This sermon assures us that God’s purposes move forward not by human perfection, but by His faithfulness, calling us to trust, follow, and rest in Christ.
