RE:GENESIS: CALLED TO ASSURANCE (GENESIS 20-21)
Even after decades of walking with God, Abraham falls back into the same fear and sin. Genesis 20 reminds us that maturity doesn’t mean immunity—believers still struggle. Yet Abraham’s cowardice does not cancel his calling. God intervenes, protects Sarah, and still calls Abraham a prophet, showing that His covenant purposes are not undone by human weakness. Then in Genesis 21, Isaac is born “as He had said,” proving that God’s faithfulness doesn’t fail. This passage calls seasoned believers to assurance: our salvation does not rest on our consistency but on God’s promise. Just as the covenant line advanced despite Abraham’s failure, so our security rests in Christ, the true promised Son. We are not saved because we hold tightly to God, but because He holds tightly to us.
