THE CLUTCH PLAY- Mark 14:32-42 (FROM “THE COMEBACK”)
Main Idea: In hindsight, if you are a sports fan, you can see pivotal moments in a season or a game. That big trade that turned the tide. Maybe just a person coming back from injury, or a come from behind win that turned the momentum of the season. Sometimes in baseball it’s a clutch defensive play that begins to shift the momentum of the game in favor of your team. This is that moment in the Story of Redemption. Jesus has made his way to Jerusalem, he’s had the last supper with the disciples, and now he is seeking God about what he knows is coming, and prays a very vulnerable prayer. “Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.” In that moment, Jesus made the clutch play of all clutch plays! He decided that regardless of how it affected him, he was going to make the play, and he did….and by his example, he empowers us to do the same.
