GIVING - Luke 12:13-21 (FROM “RED LETTER CHALLENGE”)

Main Idea: Well, we’re here.  Probably the one topic in the Red-Letter Challenge that Pastors like to speak on the least.  That’s because there are many false prophets and televangilists out there that abuse the teachings of scripture to line their pockets with money.  They are no better than the tax-collectors of Jesus’ day.  With that said, Jesus taught often on money.  Like, a lot.  Not as much as some would have you believe.  It’s not the thing he taught most.  People think that because they count passages where Jesus used money as an illustration.  But regardless, he taught on it A LOT!  Which is why it’s on the list for the Red-Letter Challenge.  We have a propensity to greed.  It’s in our sinful nature.  We keep more than we need and give away less than we are able.  Jesus teaches a very straightforward lesson in Luke 12 that helps us understand his heart in his teaching around money.
